About project

TreeDFurniture is an Advanced Technology Foundation (HTF) suported project investigating means to reduce wood waste and production costs in high quality wooden furniture production. Even minor knots and weak areas can force the producers to discard a piece of nearly assembled furniture wasting both resources and the effort already spent. The project investigates the possibilities in using low energy X-Ray technology to inspect the innards of wooden planks at an early point in the process in order to address most issues with the wood. With knowledge about the exact position of e.g. knots the cutting process can be yield optimized by avoiding knots in critical areas of the final product.
